Summary Description

Crynant is in the Dulais valley, the settlement developed after the opening of the Dulais Valley Mineral railway in 1862. The Cefn Coed colliery opened in 1926 was the deepest anthracite mine at 732m. The colliery’s steam winding gear is now the centre piece of a mining museum. Reference The Encyclopaedia of Wales
