Summary Description

A market town serving the northern part of central Anglesey, it was on the (no closed) branch railway line to Amlwch. In the C19 it was an important centre for the manufacture of shoes and clogs and in 1833 there were 250 cobblers in the town but this declined in the face of competition from Northampton.
